Thomas Fire. Thomas Fire. Thomas Fire. All nighter waiting and waiting to see if we’d have to leave. Listening to the police scanner hearing them send engines a few blocks away and not knowing what is burning or not. Wondering if our parish, the iconic San Buenaventura Mission burnt down (it didn’t! The fire got right up behind it but it survived. Funnily enough, most people of Ventura worried about the Mission— Catholic or not. xo). We had friends lose their home, friends evacuated for days, we evacuated during the day because of the smoke. All the orange light. December was a blur because this fire consumed so much of our everyday lives.

Other things did happen though. Feast days. Going to 3 lots to find our perfect tree. TWO! overnights away with Daniel and Felix. Amazing food. Erica’s book release. Hanukkah. Caroling. Turning 29. Christmas Day (Bishop Barron!). Stomach bugs. Family family family.
