Atlas James! He turned 4 a couple weeks back. He kept changing his mind over and over leading up to his party with what kind of decorations he wanted and he ended up settling on a “Rainbow Batman” theme birthday and you know, it was kind of the best and is so him right now. So he got a luxurious box funfetti cake with a rainbow sprinkle bat signal on top. I also wish I made more of an effort to take better photos… where’s my family photographer Scott when I need him most!?
Party was great, even if it led to 80% of the kids all barfing within the subsequent days (flu, not my funfetti cake and dirt dessert).
Earlier in the week was his actual birthday and we surprised the kids with going to a Dodger game. We checked Ollie out of school early and he absolutely hates surprises and was getting so angry that he didn’t know so I slipped him the clue of it being in Los Angeles and he said, “*gasp!* Are you going to the airport to fly back to Mexico??”, my forever idealist. Gotta teach him my ways of low expectations. The game was fun… kind of. It ended up being SO hot and Atlas shuts down in extreme temps (extreme for him is anything other than 65-75 degrees) that we ended up buying one of those overpriced fan spray bottles. We also decided that Prim is banned from Dodger stadium and all sporting events because she cried every time we cheered and Dodgers won 10-2 soooooo….
Picked up a couple cupcakes on the way home and Atlas was very serious about keeping the candle blowing just for him…
He has been so amazing lately (and difficult… but just normal choleric-ness of having to learn not everything goes his way no matter what he wants or does so a constant reminder to control his temper). He is such a helper— just came in the room with snacks for everyone that he wanted me to open without anyone asking him. If me or Daniel say we need help, he’s the first to jump up and offer. The other day at church he said he wants to bring his wallet in next time so he can put his own money in the basket. He generously spent his birthday money buying all the kids something without one complaint and was so happy to do it. Cleaning up toys on the other hand…. not his thang. He is so uniquely creative in his imagination that he is constantly amazing us and also cracking us all up because he is just so hilarious. He says “amos” for almost and “poso” for also and I want him to say that forever. Love him so much.
Here’s the annual interview (which he was in the worst mood for so don’t mind his moodiness):
Also a little spam of my favorite photos of him from over the years.
Happy birthday, Atlas!
