7QT: Summa, Swim, + Temperaments

Might not be so quick-ish this week…

1. Summatime

Long time since the last 7QT! We went and survived our trip to Paris/London. Hopefully I’ll get around to typing it all out soon soon soon. School ended and we are fully embracing summer life. I love not having to pack school lunches and making sure there is a clean uniform or that homework is done. We’ve had beach + pool days, BBQs, movie nights, all the good stuff. It’s weird having a kid in school and really feeling and experiencing summer again (kinda).

2. Atlas + Cholericness

With Ollie being back home and being King of the Castle amongst the kids, Atlas has been having a little bit of a hard time adjusting. It’s actually been great because him and Ollie get along really, really well most of the time and have been spending hours playing legos together. The issue is when Ollie gets extra bossy/perfectionist and Atlas gets bothered by it, Atlas takes it out on Prim. I’m so glad I ordered and finished reading A Spiritual Growth Plan for Your Choleric Child by Connie Rossini. Cholerics are known by how they react immediately to stimuli so it addressed how when your choleric child is bothered he/she jumps to anger and then that anger needs an outlet aka what’s been going on with Atlas, so basically it’s about catching that space between anger and reacting and teaching them to channel it into something appropriate— time alone to calm down whether it’s going outside for a few to ride a bike, go into their bedroom to write, etc. When I’m able to catch it, I notice a big difference. I’m waiting and waiting for her to write her book about melancholics so I can better address my own issues and how to help with Prim endlessly being offended by everything and Ollie’s fluctuating anxiety/perfectionism/bossiness.

3. Swim

We are finishing up another short round of swim lessons today and boy— I feel like my choleric side is showing by how impatient I’m being. I just want them to know how to swim already! After talking with others and doing some research, it takes a while for kids to finally learn when they have minimal/inconsistent exposure which makes sense for us as we don’t have open access to a pool. Keeping on with the temperament talk, Oliver and Atlas’ temperaments are on high display during swim lessons and it’s pretty funny to witness. Ollie: melancholic/choleric and Atlas: choleric/sanguine. Atlas impatiently waits for his turn, eagerly does whatever is asked from him, keeps pushing limits/abilities/trying to one-up Ollie, kind of blocks out his swim teacher if she is asking him to do something he doesn’t feel like doing. Ollie on the other hand is hyper focused making sure that everyone is keeping track of time and who’s turn it is, will do what the teacher asks while looking extremely uncomfortable and nervous but still keeps pushing himself to do better and asks to try something again if he struggled, and every few minutes glancing over at me for reassurance whereas Atlas glances over at me to tell me about something cool he did.

5. 28 Weeks

Did you see my little pregnancy update? We are making some progress on naming this baby but would love for you to throw more suggestions out at me.

6a. TV + Movies + Books

Bachelorette— they can just end the show now because Rachel+Peter=4ever. Bachelor in Paradise is as confusing as ever so I’m just waiting to the Men Tell All episode and some promos for the show to see what the franchise makes of it all.

Saw Cars 3 and was super disappointed. Anyone else not feeling it? Best part of seeing it was surprising the kids while we were casually walking by the theater already having tickets unknowingly to them and Ollie saying, “ARE WE REALLY SEEING IT!? Ohhhhhhh I’m so excited but now I kinda have a stomachache.”.

Finished The Nightingale and cried my eyes out it’s so good oh my.

6b. Primcess

Can’t believe I almost finished this post without writing about Prim. She has been so emotional like always, but even more so she has been hilarious and outrageously girly. She stares at photos from my wedding and says how she wishes she could be there and how she wants to get married and all her little wedding details.

I think you should name him Felix (Joseph?). It fits with your subtle Harry Potter theme for the boys and Felix Leseur was a French atheist turned DOMINCAN PRIEST who converted after trying to prove that Lourdes wasn’t real. He even spiritually directed Fulton Sheen at one point. Also his wife, Elisabeth Leseur, is a Servant of God and her cause is open.

I’m a new-ish reader and usually not the comment type, but I adore that you went to France and got a haircut that you saw on a mom there. It looks great on you but also makes me smile because it’s such a small but great example of enjoying life right now, in this moment. This is sounding stranger and stranger by the minute so I’m gonna go now, but I love your hair!

Hi 7QT,
Again, I enjoy reading your post as I truly miss my family and this helps me connect with our family more. I generally sceptical regarding haircuts although your Francais hair style is really nice! I love my grandchildren so so much! Precious, wonderful, hearts of gold, and beautiful, are a few descriptions that come to mind. I am likely coming back out Sunday, July 09, and Monday, July 10, and hope we can meet up for a beach outing or something else, hopefully you’ll be around and we can see each other.
Love always,
Dad & Grandpa Robert

Agreeing with above, Felix really goes well with your other children’s names. I’m sure you will pick something great! Good luck :)
