It’s not Friday but feels like it should be so why not jump into 7 quick takes a day early.
We had SO much fun in Lake Arrowhead. We went last year for New Years too, but this year was better because there was actually snow at the cabin so we didn’t have to drive even farther up the mountain to find some. Highlight was sledding. We brought a shovel and helped carve out a very intense sledding hill that probably wasn’t very suitable for little kids, but we dragged them on it anyway. Ollie said the sweetest thing to Daniel while sledding—
“I think Our Lady of Olives is having fun, too.”
“Is she watching you?”
“No, she’s right next to me.”
Primrose was pretty much crying the entire time sledding because “snow in my eyes!” but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, we didn’t let it ruin us taking a cutesy photo together.
GUYS I AM SCANDINAVIAN. Dreams do come true. I feel like calling the blog Wilber Huset is now justified. Daniel got me AncestryDNA for Christmas and I made him give it to me early so I could send it in ASAP. I’m a little surprised by my breakdown because I thought I would be less British—still a lot, but not 55%, and more Italian (my olive skin and features) + Europe West (I’m French and first generation German). I had suspicions of being Spanish and Scandinavian so that’s cool to be validated. I want to have everyone do this. Have you done it?? Tell me about your results!
3. Everything Breaking
Our van + 1 and only bathroom both crapped (harhar) out on us this past week. I DID happen to leave the lights on in the van so we thought the battery was dead, but when it wouldn’t jump we had to take it into the mechanic and they found out that some ignition thing (v technical) coincidentally broke at the same time and that the battery was fine.
AND THEN when I was giving the kids a bath and draining the water, when it started coming up though the toilet and then just stopped draining then the water from the washing machine drained into the bathtub, too. -______- Don’t mind the gross photo.
Luckily everything is resolved and I have a new appreciation for working plumbing and working cars.
Ollie is back in school and it’s just me and these ding dongs all day long again.
Prim still talks about “baby sister” all day long and Atlas is this ever evolving kid. He still seems to only operate in extremes, but he is maturing and becoming so much more rational everyday and it.is.amazing. Except he came thisclose to pressing the emergency stop button on the escalator at Target today. But he DIDN’T! So hooray. Ollie is moving into official kid territory and it is so weird and new and awesome.
Little summary of the kids, check!
5. Books/TV Shows/ Movies
The Bachelor. I feel like I have not done enough research and speculation on this season, but I’m kind of loving just sitting down and watching. Anyway, I love Vanessa, one of the Danielles, and Sarah. Still waiting for Nick to loosen up and open up. I feel like I’ve heard him say the same couple of sentiments over and over. More importantly though, DANIEL HAS BEEN WATCHING WITH ME. We were watching and I looked over at him eating cookies and milk and commenting “look at them all being good sports besides Corinne” and I fell in love all over again. I really thought I’d lose him after the trashiness of this week’s episode but I think he’s holding out.
ALSO, WE STARTED READING HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE! Pretty much only Ollie is following along, but Harry just found out he is a wizard and hearing Ollie talk about the Dursley’s and Hagrid and Dumbledore just makes me so happy.
Oh yeah, we are seeing La La Land tonight. Super excited!
6+7. This post is super long so these both are for photos
Linking up with Kelly like always! Happy (almost) Friday!
